Levi McAbee threw for 116 yards and two touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown while Brandt Martinez finished with 101 rushing yards on 22 carries in a 38-13 road win at Ponder on Friday.
The Lions (1-2) opened the scoring on a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Blane Schulz to Cal Schulz in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead.
Farmersville (2-1) responded with 23 unanswered points to assume control.
Jaxson Ward caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from McAbee to tie the score at 7-7 and went ahead 10-7 later in the first quarter on Felix Maldonado’s 36-yard field goal.
Maldonado made field goals of 39, 24 and 48 yards, with the last make bumping the Fightin’ Farmers’ advantage to 23-7 during the second quarter.
Ponder reduced its deficit to 23-13 with a Kaden Allred 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Farmersville restored momentum after Colton Dupes blocked a punt in the fourth quarter. On the play, the ball bounced behind the goal line, resulting in a safety.
McAbee accounted for the game’s final two touchdowns, completing a 25-yard touchdown pass to Amare Warren before adding a 14-yard run for the game’s final touchdown.
Farmersville’s defense held Ponder to 250 total yards of offense on 60 plays — an average of 4.17 yards per play — recorded three sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.
Dupes recorded a team-high nine tackles with one tackle for loss and one sack. Breyden Tull and Tristen Wimberly each had seven tackles. Rajun Wilkes had one interception.
