Blue Ridge proposes lower property tax rate for 2026

by | Sep 17, 2026 | Area news, Latest

Blue Ridge City Council is scheduled to consider a proposed 2026 property tax rate of $0.322553 per $100 of taxable value during a public meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at Blue Ridge City Hall, 108 W. James St.

The proposed rate is below the city’s 2026 no-new-revenue tax rate of $0.327334 per $100 of taxable value, meaning the city is not proposing an increase in property taxes for the 2026 tax year based on the same properties.

The proposed rate also is below the voter-approval tax rate of $0.322553 per $100. Because the proposed rate does not exceed the voter-approval rate, the city is not required to hold an election to seek voter approval.

Residents may express support for or opposition to the proposed rate by contacting members of the Blue Ridge City Council or by attending the Sept. 22 public meeting.

The proposed rate represents a decrease from the city’s 2025 tax rate of $0.429606 per $100 of taxable value. According to the city’s tax-rate notice, the rate would decrease by $0.107053, or 24.92%.

The notice also compares the taxes imposed on the average residence homestead in 2025 with those proposed for 2026. The average homestead taxable value is listed at $189,477 for 2026, down from $199,008 in 2025, a decrease of 4.79%.

Based on those figures, the tax on the average homestead would decrease from $854.95 in 2025 to $611.16 in 2026, a decrease of $243.79, or 28.52%.

The city’s total tax levy also is projected to decrease, from $524,283 in 2025 to $510,687 in 2026, a reduction of $13,596, or 2.59%.

The city’s proposed tax rate is used to calculate property taxes based on taxable property value. Individual tax bills can vary depending on a property’s taxable value and applicable exemptions.

The Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office provides tax-rate information and a property tax estimator for properties within Blue Ridge. The county’s online tax-rate information includes 2026 information for Blue Ridge City.

For assistance with tax calculations, property owners may contact the tax assessor at 972-547-5020 or [email protected]. Information also is available through the Collin County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.

The notice lists Wendy Mattingly, Linda Braly, Trenton Sissom and Keith Chitwood as voting for the proposal and David Apple as voting against it.
