With their sights set on qualifying for the Region II-4A meet for the fourth consecutive season, the Farmersville boys cross country team showed at last Friday’s Ken Gaston Race at the Lake that it’s already in championship form.
Led by a trio of top-10 individual finishes from junior Landen Ware, senior Luke Lair and sophomore Jesse Hamm, the Fightin’ Farmers captured first place in the boys’ 1A-4A division with 65 points. Fort Worth Southwest finished second with 90 points, followed by Life Waxahachie, which took third with 92 points.
“The guys were excited to win a race, and I really enjoy seeing them have success,” said Farmersville boys head coach Jon Nordin.
Ware placed second with a time of 8:50.43 to pace a dominating performance by the Fightin’ Farmers.
Less than two seconds behind Ware was Lair, who finished fifth overall in 8:51.55, while Hamm took eighth in 8:52.2.
Another runner who stepped up for Farmersville on Friday was sophomore Andrew Plotts. The Farmersville sophomore clocked a time of 8:53.18, good for 22nd place.
“Andrew is new to us this year,” Nordin said. “He’s stepped right in and is an important piece for us. He really likes to run and is only going to get better as he gets older. He’ll do what it takes to be good at this.”
Senior Travis Chambers ran to 38th in 8:54.12 to round out the efforts for the Farmersville boys.
On the girls’ side, senior Breelynn Pollard competed in the 5A-6A division and took eighth overall with a time of 20:07.6 in the 5-kilometer race.
