Farmersville traveled to Round Rock last weekend to compete in the Hoka McNeil Invitational, held at Old Settlers Park, the site of the state meet.
Several Farmers showed that they have the potential to make a return trip to Round Rock in early November, including junior Landen Ware. Ware continued his breakout season by capturing 18th place in the boys 4A 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:54.7.
“Landen continues to be very good,” said Farmersville head boys coach Jon Nordin. “He’s healthy and feels strong and he’s looking forward to the postseason.”
Sophomore Jesse Hamm placed 122nd in 18:26.2, senior Luke Lair was 128th in 18:30.9, sophomore Andrew Plotts placed 252nd in 19:44.1 and senior Travis Chambers captured 273rd in 19:54.8.
“The kids enjoyed it,” Nordin said. “It’s a nice course with a big crowd and runners from all over the state. I’m glad we got to take them.”
Seniors Bob Frech and Aaron Olvera also traveled to Round Rock and ran on varsity for the first time this season. Olvera placed 437th in 24:24, while Frech took 416th in 23:04.4.
“They’ve been longtime members of the program and have done a lot of running over the years,” Nordin said. “They were excited to get to compete in the race and did well.”
Of anyone on the Farmersville team, senior Breelynn Pollard has some of the most experience running at Old Settlers Park.
Pollard ran on the same course last year during the Class 4A state meet.
Last week, Pollard returned to Round Rock and finished 42nd in the girls 4A 2-mile run in a time of 12:25.8.
