The Farmersville Planning and Zoning Commission discussed proposed limits on convenience stores with gas pumps at major intersections and directed staff to revise the ordinance for further review.
Under the proposal, two convenience stores with gas pumps would be allowed at qualifying intersections without additional city approval. Any additional locations would require a special use permit, giving the city a chance to review each proposal individually before deciding whether it should be allowed.
Commissioners discussed whether a traffic study should be required as part of the special use permit process to help determine how a proposed business could affect traffic flow and safety. Members also questioned whether the number of gas pumps alone is an acceptable way to measure the potential impact on an intersection.
