Farmersville set to appeal UIL realignment

by | Feb 7, 2022 | Latest, Sports

Farmersville High School is set to appeal the latest UIL realignment to move back into its original district.

The UIL announced its latest alignments for football, volleyball and basketball last Thursday, Feb. 3. With the new districts, the football team was placed in District 5-4A Division II, competing against Aubrey, Bridgeport, Gainesville, Krum, Sanger and Van Alstyne.

The biggest reason for the appeal is travel time, with road games to Gainesville and Bridgeport both over 75 miles away.

The goal is to move the football team back into District 6-4A Division II, where many of the teams from the previous alignment return. Community High School did move up to the Division I level, but the district welcomed Lincoln and Roosevelt High School in Dallas.

Farmersville head coach and athletic director Randy Barnes said he thinks the schools in district six will approve the Farmers back into the district and create a seven-team slate. If both district six teams approve Farmersville to return and district five teams approve them to leave, the UIL appeal won’t be necessary. The school has until next Monday to file an appeal.
