Barnes honored to be named R.O.C.K mentor

by | Feb 24, 2022 | Latest, Sports

Farmersville head coach and athletic director Randy Barnes is part of the new Texas High School Coaches Association mentoring program.

The THSCA has implemented a new mentorship program called The R.O.C.K. Coaches Mentoring Program (Rare, Outstanding, Compelled and Knowledgeable)  — powered by Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation & TAMU.

This mentorship program is designed to connect with a younger generation of coaches.

The R.O.C.K. Coaches Mentoring Program will match a coach that is new to the profession (the mentee) with a veteran coach (the mentor) to gain advice, encouragement, and insights into their career aspirations and to help them grow in their desired coaching fields.

Barnes said he was honored to be picked as one of the program’s mentors, having coached at multiple locations for over 15 years. His job will be to help mentor a coach with only five, or fewer, years of experience.

“It was a huge honor to be named one of the mentors for the R.O.C.K program,” Barnes said. “It’s a great idea to help younger coaches out along the way and something that is certainly needed. I wish I had a program like this when I was coming up coaching.”
