Farmersville dominates in district-opening wins

by | Mar 15, 2022 | Latest, Sports

The Lady Farmers got off on the right foot in district play, with two double-digit wins.

Farmersville (2-0, 9-6) opened play on the road Monday, March 7 with a 16-1 victory over Community. The Lady Farmers got off to a fast start in the contest, totaling 13 hits over the first four innings. Opening the game, Jamie Varga and Morgan Erwin had back-to-back singles at the top of the order.

The duo was a force in this game, each collecting three hits in their first three plate appearances.

Varga had a single, double and triple to open the game while scoring three runs. Her first was in the top of the first inning when she stole home on a passed ball.

Erwin also drove in two runs while scoring three times herself. She was able to score the second run of the inning on a groundout by Carleigh Deeds.

Throughout the lineup, Farmersville was able to find a rhythm offensively by finding gaps in the Community defense. With three triples in the game, the Lady Farmers piled on with six runs in the fourth inning, but no doubt on the result. Jamie Varga earned the win in the circle for Farmersville, allowing one run in the game while staying ahead in the count.

Farmersville picked up its second win of the week later that day, beating Kaufman on the road 19-5. Through its first two district games, the Lady Farmers have shown a propensity to score runs, outscoring their opponents 35-6 and sit atop of the 13-4A standings.

After a week off for spring break, Farmersville takes the field at home this Friday against Quinlan Ford. The opening pitch for that game will be at 5:30 p.m., before the Lady Farmers travel to Caddo Mills the following Friday, March 25.
