It was the end of the line for the Farmersville baseball team in the area round of the state playoffs.
Taking on Spring Hill, the Farmers (11-3, 17-16) were swept in the round two series, losing last Friday and Saturday.
Game one on Friday at Community High School saw the team struggle to get outs in the early innings, losing 7-1. Spring Hill scored two runs in the top of the first inning and three runs in the second to take an early five-run lead and never looked back.
They were patient at the plate, as starting pitcher Cooper Strawn threw 52 pitches to get out of the first two innings and surrendered three walks in that span.
“They have a good lineup, guys one through four for them is as good as we’ve seen,” head coach Jon Nordin said. “We didn’t throw as many strikes as we’ve been throwing, but again, they could have had something to do with that. They made us work and put pressure on us. Their three-run inning Friday and the five-run inning Saturday both started with two outs and nobody on. We were just a pitch away, but couldn’t get off the field. I don’t think we had a quick inning all weekend. It seemed like we were always in trouble.”
