Wylie Prep holds ribbon cutting

by | Aug 26, 2022 | Area news, Education

Years of planning and preparation finally came to an end for the much-anticipated Building 22 at the Wylie Preparatory campus.

The school hosted a ribbon cutting for the building Saturday, Aug. 8 at the campus located at 4110 Skyview Court in Wylie. School personnel, area dignitaries, students, families and supporters of Wylie Prep attended the ceremony. The event kicked off with fellowship and In-N-Out burgers outside the new building, followed by the ribbon cutting, tours, dedication ceremony and reception.

The dream to build the gym first began 10 years ago. In 2017, fundraising officially kicked just two months after the death of Wylie Prep student athlete Ally Hooten. Farmersville residents Steve and Jana Hooten, Ally’s parents, formed Ally’s Legacy, a nonprofit focused on raising funds for a multi-purpose building on the grounds of Wylie Prep, and for other outreach ministries.

Shauna Shea, Development Director for Wylie Prep, spearheaded much of the work and fundraising for the school.

Over the next few years, Wylie Prep personnel met with an architect and started the process. The building, bearing the same number Ally wore on her uniform, was designed and built by Goff Companies, LLC.

According to the administration, the building will be used for Wylie Prep Town Halls, kindergarten graduations, school dances, volleyball and basketball games, school chapels, parent gatherings, Patriot Preview meetings, senior class meetings, Bible studies, mentoring programs, recess and PE.
