Heading into the game, Pilot Point (1-2) was ranked among the top 10 area teams in class 4A.
The left Farmers Stadium a little worse for wear, as Farmersville (2-1) pulled off the 21-18 upset victory on Friday night. The Farmers’ defense led the way, sparking the second-half comeback victory.
Pilot Point scored with 33 seconds remaining in the first half to take an 18-14 lead into the break. After a scoreless third quarter, the Farmers broke through with a 17-yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Caden Norman to Colton Harbin with 7:35 remaining for the winning score.
Norman hit Harbin for a long pass to spark the scoring drive, followed by Norman converting a key third down with his legs early while fighting through injury.
The Farmers then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and killed nearly six minutes on their next drive before turning the ball over on downs. The Bearcats had a chance to either tie or win the game late, but the Farmers’ defense held firm after two offensive penalties.
Farmersville travels to Community for their final non-district game on Friday, Sept. 16.
