Farmers defense sets tone in win over Leopards

by | Oct 7, 2023 | Latest, Sports

Diego Capetillo (58) hurries Gainesville quarterback Jamal Davis (12) on Friday night.

An early score, tough defense and some sloppy plays by the Gainesville offense gave the Farmers an early first quarter lead they never gave up.

Playing from behind the entire game, the Leopards’ running game was no match for Brady Gray and company.

The senior quarterback passed for four touchdowns and ran one in early in the second quarter to pace Farmersville’s 55-28 win.

The Farmers’ lines on both sides of the ball gave the offense plenty room to maneuver and defensively made it hard for the Leopards to control the line of scrimmage.

Farmersville led, 20-7 early in the second quarter and Gainesville never got closer than two touchdowns.

The Farmers started to pull away in the third quarter on a 34-yard touchdown run by Gerardo Reyes and Gray’s fourth touchdown pass to Arden Cox.

The victory evened their district record and put Farmersville in a three-way tie for third place with Krum and Bridgeport, behind first-place Aubrey and Van Alstyne (second place).

Farmersville will try to move up in the standings when they travel to Van Alstyne on Friday the 13th. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
