Farmers fall to Van Alstyne 27-14

Caden Norman (3) looks for his receiver against Van Alstyne.

Traveling to Van Alstyne, the Farmers’ run-first offense could not get traction in the first half against the Panthers.

Instead, it was a combination of Panther runners, including quarterback Weston Johnston, who gave the Farmersville defense a tough time.

Without starting quarterback Brady Gray, the Farmers looked flat in the first half.

The Panthers (4-3, 3-1) keyed on Gerardo Reyes, limiting him to just 39 yards on 16 carries. Backup quarterback Caden Norman had some success in the air, throwing for 226 yards, but completed just 13 of 39 passes.

What appeared to be missed interference calls cost the Farmers, including a fourth and 4 at the Panther 17 when Kaden Johnson was bumped on a pass in the endzone. Farmersville was trailing 7-0 at the time.

The Panthers scored all their points just before the mid-point of the third quarter, a deficit Farmersville could not overcome, down 27-0.

This Friday, Oct. 20, is Farmersvillle’s homecoming (4-2, 1-2) and will host Krum (3-4, 1-2). The two teams and Bridgeport are tied for fourth in the district with three games remaining.
