Lengthy list of streets earmarked for repairs; some funded by TIRZ
Farmersville’s streets need repair and residents keep “beating up” on city officials to fix them, according to City Manager Ben White.
So, the city is using money it has collected to develop areas within and bordering its Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone to repair its street system to the satisfaction of disgruntled residents.
The city has $10 million available in bonding capacity were it to seek to pay for the entire street-repair work at once, White said. It has identified several streets inside the TIRZ or bordering the TIRZ that it is working to repair. Those projects, at the current time, are projected to cost the city roughly $8.13 million. White cautioned, however, that “the amount is just an estimate,” adding that the city faces the “real possibility” of inflation driving the cost even higher.
