Farmersville ISD voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition A, a $98 million bond proposal to expand the district’s facilities.

Voters cast ballots in favor of the proposition 774 to 394, with 751 of the total 1,168 votes cast early or by mail.

Election day turnout on May 4, 2024, represented about 36% of the total votes cast.

The trend of casting ballots early by Collin County voters continued with almost 64% of ballots cast prior to election day.

This is the second bond that FISD voters have approved in the past three years as the district continues to adapt to growth in the area.

Superintendent Micheal French was pleased with the results.

“We are extremely grateful for the support our community continues to grant us,” said French.  “FISD is blessed to have such giving and caring individuals. We will do all we can to honor the public trust throughout the construction process.”

City Council

In Farmersville’s mayoral election, former councilmember Craig Overstreet defeated Mayor Bryon Wiebold by collecting 55.68% of the 625 votes cast.

Wiebold was seeking his third term as mayor.

Overstreet had served on city council until May 2023 and has advocated for civic involvement and service to the community.

“I am humbled and honored to be elected as the next mayor of Farmersville,” said Overstreet. “Thank you to those who have shown support and participated in the process during the past few months, especially my wife and family. I have talked with many of you, heard your concerns, and now we get to go to work.

I encourage everyone to do he same,” he added. “Attend council meetings, serve on a board, volunteer your time. We all can take part in making Farmersville the best place to live. I have dedicated many years in service to our community and I look forward to working with everyone.”

Mike Henry received 430 votes, running unopposed, to retain his city council seat, Place 4.

Blue Ridge ISD

Blue Ridge Independent School District re-elected two trustees and added a new one.

Lonnie Murphy defeated incumbent Scott Cessna by three votes to earn the Place 1 seat. Murphy had 57 votes to Cessna’s 54.

Matt Grier ran unopposed and was re-elected to Place 2 and Kevin Dauster, also unopposed, was re-elected to Place 5.

Community ISD

Jessica R. Foster and Kris Zilberstein ran a contested race for Place 2 on the Community ISD Board of Trustees. Foster received 137 votes (64.62%) to Zilberstrein’s 75 votes (35.38%).

Joshua Saenz, who ran unopposed, was re-elected to Place 7.
