The celebration was rather subdued.
When Farmersville sophomore Jairo Acosta kicked the ball into the net for his third goal of last Saturday’s home game against Bonham with 4:56 remaining in the second half, it not only ended a 9-1 victory for the Farmers’ boys’ soccer team but it also clinched the first playoff berth in team history.
Yet, for as exciting as the occasion was, Farmersville players didn’t have much of a chance to celebrate. That’s because they had to line up in the middle of the field at Farmers Stadium to celebrate Senior Night. Seniors Yovanni Landaverde, Raul Arceo and Michael Vasquez were honored for their contributions to the program.
Following the conclusion of Senior Night activities, head coach Barrett Clark shared his joy.
“We’ve said this all season, this is a historic season for us,” he said. “First time every making the playoffs. First time ever scoring nine goals in a game. It’s really exciting for the boys.”
With the win, Farmersville also clinched third place in District 11-4A.
