Crotty earns top honor

by | Jun 25, 2026 | Latest

Cody Crotty’s professional goal is rooted in the fire service, and he intends to become a full-time firefighter.

Crotty, a volunteer firefighter, has been named Firefighter of the Year for the Farmersville Fire and Rescue Department, even as he works as an electrician for his father’s business.

Despite his busy work schedule, Crotty still makes time for the fire service he loves.

“You don’t find many young people who are as dedicated these days to the fire service,” said Fire Capt. Chandler Williams, who serves with Crotty. “We have a saying around here. It goes, ‘We’re going to be 1% better every day.’ Cody goes way beyond that standard.”

Crotty expressed gratitude for being named Firefighter of the Year.

“The recognition means a great deal to me,” he said. “I thank my fellow firefighters, officers and the department for their support and trust.”

Crotty is just 20 years old, Williams said, “but he’s always had a passion for being a firefighter.” Crotty is currently enrolled in the fire academy and recently completed EMT training.

“Being able to serve alongside such dedicated individuals is a privilege,” Crotty said. “This award reflects the teamwork and commitment of everyone around me.”

Speaking to the Farmersville Rotary Club last week, Fire Chief Greg Massey said Crotty has responded to roughly half of the department’s approximately 800 calls this year.

“Cody has a great attitude, and he gets along with everybody,” Massey said. “He just loves the fire service, and those who work with him enjoy having Cody at their side.”

Crotty said he plans to bring that same dedication to the department in the future.

“I am thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given,” he said, “and look forward to continuing to serve with pride and dedication.”
