The Farmersville Fightin’ Farmers continued their tradition of athletic success during the 2025-26 school year.
The Farmersville Times is proud to introduce the second installment of a three-part series celebrating the best teams, athletes, moments and performances from this past school year. The categories and winners for the second annual C&S Media High School Sports Awards were chosen by sports editor David Wolman, with winners being published over three weeks.
Part 1 (July 16) included the Biggest Story, Breakthrough Moment, Newcomer of the Year and Best Team
Part 2 (July 23) highlights the Best Game, Best Finish, Biggest Upset and Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year.
Part 3 (July 30) will wrap up the series with Coach of the Year, Most Improved Athlete, Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete.
These are the winners of the second installment of the series.
Best game: Aguilar’s field goal lifts Farmersville over Blue Ridge
The right leg of alum place kicker Christian Aguilar has produced in clutch situations for the Farmersville football team.
One of his best moments in a Farmersville uniform came during the Fightin’ Farmers 2025 season opener against Blue Ridge.
Aguilar made a 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift Farmersville to a thrilling 30-27 road win over Blue Ridge on Friday, Aug. 29.
Farmersville got the ball back at its own 30 with about three and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and marched down the field to set up Aguilar for the game-winner.
Alum wide receiver Sam Stone had a couple of crucial pass receptions during that clock-eating drive for Farmersville.
Farmersville stormed out to a 10-0 lead in the first half, but Blue Ridge rallied to within 10-7 at halftime before taking the lead in the third quarter. However, the Farmers won the game thanks to some timely plays on offense, two interceptions by senior Amare Warren, a 74-yard kickoff return by alum Marquis Oshodi and the right leg of Aguilar.
Best finish: Baseball vs. Sunnyvale
With its playoff hopes fading, Farmersville defeated Sunnyvale 5-3 in eight innings in a must-win game on April 14.
Farmersville overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-2. The Fightin’ Farmers were down to their final strike, but Camden Anderson overcame a 0-2 count to draw a walk. That walk ignited the rally. Anderson proceeded to tie the score at 3-3 on a Raiders’ defensive error, and the game went to extra innings.
More defensive mistakes by Sunnyvale allowed Farmersville to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the eighth, with the Farmers’ fifth run coming on a Brandt Martinez fielder’s choice.
Sunnyvale brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the eighth, but a heads-up play by pitcher Sebastian Redwine, and first baseman Will Shirley, ended the threat. The game ended on a pick-off at first base, with Shirley applying the tag.
Farmersville also got seven strong innings from alum pitcher Mason Day, who struck out six and allowed just four hits and two earned runs in 7.0 innings.
That win served as the springboard that Farmersville needed to overcome a 4-7 start to District 13-4A play and make the playoffs for the 12thconsecutive season.
Biggest upset: boys’ soccer stuns Celina
In the final meeting as district rivals between the two programs proved to be a historic one for the Fightin’ Farmers.
In the midst of a 4-0-2 late-season push that netted Farmersville its second consecutive playoff berth, the Fightin’ Farmers overcame an early 1-0 deficit to rally past the Bobcats, 2-1, to earn their first-ever victory over Celina on March 7.
Celina took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute on a rebound.
Farmersville responded less than five minutes later. The Farmers were awarded a penalty kick after alum midfielder Daniel Mendoza. Aguilar stepped to the line and kicked low into the left side of the net for a goal and a 1-1 tie.
Aguilar found the back of the net again less than a minute later to give Farmersville a 2-1 lead with 17:55 left in the first half – a lead the Fightin’ Farmers never relinquished.
Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year: Breelynn Pollard, cross country/volleyball/softball/track and field
Pollard highlighted her a standout junior season by qualifying for the Class 4A state cross country meet for the first time.
Pollard ran to 14th place with a time of 12:33.75 at the Region II-4A meet, becoming the first Farmersville runner to qualify for state since Aubrey Varner made back-to-back appearances in Round Rock in 2022 and 2023. At the 4A state meet, Pollard ran a time of 12:30.9, good for 63rd.
In volleyball, Pollard excelled after a position change to setter. She was named to the All-District second team after racking up 568 assists, 196 digs and 47 service aces.
In track and field, Pollard captured third place in the girls’ 3,200-meter run with an 11:38.67 at the regional meet and also placed ninth in the 1,600 with a 5:37.47.
In softball, Pollard was named to the All-13-4A first team. She finished with a .294 batting average, .412 slugging percentage, 15 hits, seven RBIs, 12 runs, seven walks and eight stolen bases.
