As eastern Collin County continues to experience rapid residential and commercial growth, residents will soon have an opportunity to learn more about a proposed freeway that could play a significant role in the area’s future transportation network.
Collin County will host an in-person public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Clark Middle School, 321 Panther Parkway in Princeton, to present the recommended corridor for the proposed Collin County Northeast Freeway and gather public feedback.
The proposed new-location freeway would extend from State Highway 121 to the future U.S. 380 Freeway, creating a new east-west transportation corridor through northeastern Collin County. County officials say the project is intended to improve regional mobility, reduce future traffic congestion and accommodate the area’s continued population growth while strengthening connections between existing and planned highways.
The Aug. 6 meeting represents the second public meeting in the ongoing planning process, which began with a corridor study in summer 2025. Since the first public meeting, project engineers and planners have evaluated engineering considerations, environmental resources, project goals and public input before identifying a recommended corridor for public review.
According to project information, the county is working to identify and preserve a future transportation corridor that can meet long-term travel demands while balancing engineering, environmental and community considerations. Officials have also coordinated with local cities, property owners, stakeholders and the Texas Department of Transportation throughout the study.
The meeting will be conducted in an open-house format, allowing residents to review maps and project displays, visit with members of the project team and ask questions about the recommended corridor. Attendees will also have an opportunity to submit comments that will become part of the public record and help guide the next phase of the study.
County officials emphasized that the current effort is a planning and environmental study and does not authorize construction of the freeway. Instead, the study is focused on determining the most appropriate corridor while evaluating potential environmental impacts, engineering feasibility and community concerns before additional decisions are made.
Residents who are unable to attend the meeting in person will still have an opportunity to participate. Beginning Aug. 6, all meeting materials will be posted online, where visitors can review the same information presented at the public meeting and submit comments electronically.
The public comment period will remain open through Sept. 8, allowing residents several weeks to review the proposed corridor and provide feedback.
The Northeast Freeway study is expected to continue over the next year as county officials analyze comments received during the public engagement process. A third public meeting is anticipated in spring 2027 before the project advances to a public hearing later that year.
While construction remains years away, county officials say public participation at this stage is important because comments received now will help shape the recommended corridor before the study is finalized.
Additional information about the project, meeting materials and instructions for submitting comments are available at collincountynortheastfreeway.com. Residents are encouraged to review the information and provide feedback as Collin County continues planning for the transportation needs of one of the fastest-growing regions in North Texas.
