The Farmersville cross country team began the 2026 season by running under the lights at Wylie’s Founders Park on Friday night.
Competing against several Class 6A schools, Farmersville held its own, and two Farmers ran their way into the top 10.
Senior Breelynn Pollard captured third place in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 12:39.61.
She is hopeful for similar results as she attempts to build on her first state qualification. Last year, Pollard ran to 14th place with a 12:33.75 at the Region II-4A meet, becoming the first Farmersville cross country runner to qualify for state since Aubrey Varner made consecutive appearances in Round Rock in 2022 and 2023. At the Class 4A state meet, Pollard clocked a time of 12:30.9, good for 63rd.
Sophomore Caroline Lindsey also ran for the Lady Farmers in Wylie. She completed the two-mile course in 16:01.58, good for 58th place.
On the boys’ side, Farmersville had three runners compete in the varsity race in Wylie. Junior Landen Ware set the tone for the Farmers, earning fifth place with a time of 10:44. Senior Luke Lair earned 28th place in a time of 11:36.94, while sophomore Jesse Hamm finished in 45th place in 12:15.94.
“Landen loves cross country and has worked really hard at it,” said Farmersville boys coach Jon Nordin. “He’s had a great summer and is ready to go and deserves any success he has. Luke and Jesse both ran well too. Those three give a good core and should lead us all season.”
Farmersville’s boys team seeks a fourth straight appearance in the regional meet, while the Lady Farmers are in search of their second regional berth over the last three seasons. Last season, the Fightin’ Farmers finished third in the district meet, while Pollard was the lone regional qualifier for the Farmersville girls.
Nordin said that Sunnyvale, Caddo Mills and Wills Point will have good teams, while district newcomer Kaufman has been a traditional power.
Farmersville will look to continue to build on its early-season success this Saturday morning at Princeton.
“Most of our kids are going to have to race their way into shape over the next few weeks, so who we’re running against and where we place at these early meets really doesn’t matter,” Nordin said. “We’ll race against some bigger schools at a lot of these meets, but it’s not something we talk about, and our kids probably don’t even realize it.”
