FISD board names superintendent lone finalist

by | Feb 27, 2020 | Latest

Farmersville ISD trustees have named Micheal French as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.

The decision was unanimous after a special meeting Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“The board is very excited to welcome Mr. French into the Farmersville Independent School District family,” said Board President Tony Gray.

Texas law requires school districts to release the names of lone finalists 21 days before the meeting in which they will take a final vote on employment.

Feb. 27 is day one in the process and day 21 will be Wednesday, March 18.

French served as superintendent of Terrell ISD from 2012 until August 2019. Before that, he worked as superintendent of Quinlan ISD from 2008 to 2012 and as superintendent of Scurry-Rosser ISD, a few miles southwest of Kaufman, from 2003 to 2008.

He got his start in education as an assistant principal and dean of students in Scurry-Rosser before becoming a middle school principal and then assistant superintendent in the same district.

French has a bachelor’s of science in interdisciplinary studies from University of Texas at Tyler, and a master’s of science in educational administration from Texas A&M University – Commerce.

Additionally, he holds a superintendent’s certification, principal’s certification, elementary self-contained certification, generic special education certification and an English (grades 1-8) certification.

“I’m extremely excited to be named the lone finalist of Farmersville ISD,” French said. “It is truly an honor. I am eager to build upon the incredible foundation that is in place. I look forward to working collaboratively with the board of trustees, the community, the city, parents, staff, and all stakeholders for the betterment of all students.”
