Getting ready for the first game of the season can be a difficult challenge. It becomes even tougher when your head coach is not leading on the sideline.

That situation presented it­self to the Farmersville boys basketball team, as the Farm­ers played their first game of the season without head coach Jeff Green. With Green step­ping away for family reasons, assistant coach Quincy Rob­erts served as the coach on the sideline during the Farmers’ season opener Saturday, Nov. 14, at home against Dallas Legacy Christian.

“It was exciting, but it felt different,” Roberts said. “Given the weeks that we had trained with coach Green, so to step in for him was a differ­ent experience but not really a big change. I knew what coach Green expected, and the team knew what he expected. We just had to go out and execute his game plan and play well.”

In front of their home crowd, the Farmers started to rally in the fourth quarter, ulti­mately losing to a strong Lega­cy Christian squad, 82-74.
