Show of support at FISD meeting

by | Apr 29, 2021 | Education, Latest

Farmersville Independent School District trustees on Monday received a show of support along with an endorsement of the condition of the school system.

It came from a group of about 25 parents and teachers who attended a brief FISD Board of Trustees meeting in the high school cafeteria. The delegation, many of whom were dressed in FISD purple-colored pullover shirts, stayed for the duration of the meeting; they even waited while the board and Superintendent Micheal French were meeting in a closed session to discuss a personnel matter, which is exempted by the Texas Open Meetings Law.

“It’s not entirely a surprise to me that the parents and teachers would be here,” said Jason Gomez, deputy FISD superintendent. “We have had folks come here at various times to express their support,” he said. “Although I haven’t seen them come here with coordinated outfits.”

Gomez noted also that the school system generally enjoys strong support from the community, which he indicated is not shy about expressing it to FISD administrators and trustees.
