With the playoffs around the corner and a district title on the line in the regular season finale, the Farmersville softball team had a lot to fight for last week.

Farmersville opened the week in a district title showdown, facing off against Terrell in a rescheduled season finale April 27. With the winner earning the first spot in the district standings, the Lady Farmers used a strong pitching performance to their advantage en route to a 5-3 victory over the Lady Tigers.

After the victory, coach Paula Wilfong said she appreciated being able to earn the district win in front of the Farmersville community, especially considering the challenges of this season.

The Lady Farmers got things moving in the first inning, “It feels good,” Wilfong said. “With the rain and all the rescheduling, getting to earn this win in front of the home crowd and community members means the world to us. Our seniors had a great showing today. I’m so proud of Reese [Fetty] on the mound, earning a ton of strikeouts.”

coring two runs off of a Morgan Erwin double on a 0-2 count and a Jenson McTee single. After allowing a run in the top of the third, Farmersville extended its lead to 4-1, scoring runs off of singles by Rylee Ortega and Cecily Sandoval. Two innings later, a home run by Reese Fetty allowed the Lady Farmers to ice the game, earning the two-run win.

Fetty was the starting pitcher for the Lady Farmers. In six innings in the circle, Fetty allowed three runs on four hits while striking out 11 Terrell batters. Jamie Varga threw an inning in relief out of the bullpen for Fetty. Courtney Harrell took the loss for Terrell, allowing 13 hits and five runs in six innings.
