Thomas Glenn Caraway, the first soldier killed from Farmersville in the Vietnam War, is honored Nov. 28 at the Farmersville VFW Post 7426. Caraway’s family including cousins Leslie Coker, Steve Coker, Carolyn Compton, Smoky Compton and Jerrolyn Smith were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Friends, family members and fellow veterans gathered at Farmersville VFW Post 7426 Nov. 28 to hold an inaugural remembrance celebration for Thomas Glenn Caraway.

Caraway, the post’s namesake, was the first soldier from Farmersville killed in the Vietnam War Nov. 28, 1967.

Born Feb. 2, 1946, Caraway died at the age of 21 in the Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam while leading a charge against an enemy bunker in the jungle near the border of Cambodia.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a squad leader with Company D, 2nd Battalion Infantry Regiment, also known as the Delta Devils.
