Hwy. 78 shut down for hours after fatality

A single fatality accident shut down Hwy. 78 Tuesday, May 30 for more than four hours near CR 550. The 16-year-old driver of the truck was not injured and was not at fault in the wreck.

Hwy. 78 was shut down for more than four hours following a fatality accident Tuesday, May 30.

Around 10 p.m. emergency services responded to a 911 call of a two-vehicle accident including a truck that rolled a few times on Hwy. 78 near CR 550.

Arriving on scene, first responders located a Red Buick Enclave that was demolished along with a 2001 White F-250 pickup.

Ida Garcia Bates, 55, of Rowlett was the driver of the Buick Enclave. She died on scene as a result of the accident.

A 16-year-old male from Farmersville was the driver of the pickup truck and was not injured as a result of the wreck.
