Half a century ago, 25 men got together with one purpose in mind: to help veterans.

Though the location and members have changed, Farmersville VFW Post 7426 still has the same goal. The post commemorated their 50th anniversary Saturday, Feb. 10 with a golden celebration.

Originally formed Feb. 1, 1968, the post is named after Thomas Caraway, the only Farmersville veteran killed in the Vietnam War.

During the post’s first meeting in 1968, officers were named including Post Commander T.R. Tardiff Sr., Sr. Vice Commander Lester Southard, Vice Commander Thurman Watson Jr., Quartermaster Buddy Manning, Judge Advocate Walter H. Smith, Chaplain Jimmy Whitaker and Surgeon Pancho Holland.
