Farmersville crossing guards will soon have a place of comfort and respite out of the weather after a telephone booth was purchased by the police association.

During the March 13 city council meeting, Police Chief Mike Sullivan explained to council that currently one of the department’s crossing guards uses a bicycle for a mode of transportation and does not have a vehicle to sit in to escape inclement weather in between crossing students.

“We try to have an officer go assist and offer a place to sit if the weather is bad but that is not always possible if we are responding to calls,” he said.

Originating from citizen concern for the crossing guard expressed through social media, Sullivan started researching ways to provide crossing guards shelter while on shift.
