COLLEGE STATION – Blue Ridge is home to a state champ for the second time in as many weeks.
The girls doubles team of Shelby Gerner and Ellery Martin earned bronze medals in the May 17-18 Class 2A state tennis tournament.
The Lady Tigers opened in the quarterfinals with 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 wins over Blair Brunson and Taylor Westerfield of Crawford at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center and the Omar Smith Intramural Tennis Center.
They fell 6-1, 6-1 to Fort Hancock’s Miranda Galindo and Jenna Aguilar during the semifinals. The latter group made it to the second round after besting Thrall’s Madalyn Woelfel and Weslynn Boatright 6-4, 6-2.
