Farmersville’s 12-member police force is answering the call for greater community interaction with the men and women who keep the peace, according to Assistant Police Chief Frank Gonzales.

On the third Wednesday of each month, the department hosts a Wednesday Walk through city neighborhoods. The initiative, Gonzales said, is a form of community policing that many departments use to build stronger ties with residents.

“It’s working well for Farmersville,” Gonzales said.

The goal, he added, is to “strengthen the police and community bond, and it puts a different light and a human face on officers.”
