Christmas Angels are ready to be adopted

by | Oct 22, 2021 | Area news, Latest

Farmersville residents can make the holidays a little brighter for less fortunate children by adopting a Christmas Angel and filling their wish list with age-appropriate needed and wanted items.

Spokesperson Judy Brandon said adoptions started Oct. 17 and will continue through Nov. 3 online. Sizes and wishes will be visible to the adopter when an Angel is selected, says Brandon, and because people are buying gifts for people they do not know, “we try to give as much information as possible.”

For anyone who does not have internet access and would like to adopt an angel this year, in-person signups will happen Sunday, Oct. 24 at the First United Methodist Church located at 206 N. Main St.

About 300 Angels were adopted in 2020, and to-date, Brandon said they already have “over 100 kids” registered. Parents in need of gift assistance for their children have until Nov. 3 to sign up them up to be included in the Angel Tree distribution. Applicants must be residents of Farmersville and show either a utility bill or a report card from FISD as proof.

The Angel Tree project is part of Farmersville Outreach Alliance in cooperation with FUMC, Farmersville Police and Fire, Farmersville Independent School District, as well as other clubs and individuals throughout the community.

The goal of the project is to put together gift baskets valued at about $100 each for the children on the list.

For those who prefer to donate versus shop, donations to the effort can be made online at farmersvilleoutreach.com.

While there are many Angels who are not selected each year, Brandon said, “donations will cover those who don’t get adopted.”

Sponsorships and volunteers to help collect donations and gifts are always needed as well.

Angel Tree gifts will be collected Dec. 3 – 4 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
