Parade, more holiday events this weekend

by | Dec 10, 2021 | Latest

Holiday festivities ramp up this weekend as multiple events are planned in the city.

On Friday, Dec. 10, First Baptist Farmersville presents The Light and Life Christmas Cantata outside on the Parkway at 6 p.m. Also, that same night at the church, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Santa will be in the gymnasium for plenty of photo ops along with treats and crafts.

Downtown Farmersville business owners who entered this year’s Christmas window decorating contest will find out who the winners are Saturday, Dec. 11. Winners will be judged on originality, appearance, and efforts in design. According to the chamber, Disney-themed windows will be scored higher.

There is a new parade route for the Farmersville Chamber of Commerce Disney-themed parade this year. The parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. Parade participants will exit from Hwy. 78 to line up along Farmersville Parkway, starting at 3:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 5 p.m. Spectators can view the parade from anywhere along the route, starting at South Washington Street/ Farmersville Parkway near the Best Center. The parade will then travel north on Main Street and turn south on McKinney Street, ending at North Hamilton and McKinney Street.

Before the parade, from 4:30-6 p.m., or after the parade, from around 6:30-8:30 p.m., the Farmersville Historical Society will welcome visitors to the Bain-Honaker home. The Victorian style home, built in 1865, will be decorated for the holidays. Historical society president Bertie Neu said there will be appliqued quilt blocks on display in the museum room, plus members will host a country gift store, offering baked goods and Christmas items for sale at the home located at 108 College St.

Following the parade, explore the history of Farmersville at the Farmersville Heritage Museum and visit with Santa at the “Sips & Savories with Santa” event from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

For anyone in need of a little more holiday spirit, head to the park at 7:30 p.m. with a chair and a blanket to watch the movie “Polar Express” sponsored by Fine Arts on Main.

If purchasing a live Christmas tree is still on your list, Farmersville volunteer firefighters are selling a variety of Christmas trees as part of their fundraising efforts at the big white tent located near the Onion Shed.

The Farmersville Lights special light exhibit continues throughout the month of December. Carriage rides will be available to the public, with a donation, on Friday and Saturday nights through Dec. 18. Visit farmersvillelights.com for more information.
