Farmersville City Council learned more about the Chaparral Rails-to-Trails, a 130 mile stretch through seven counties and 19 small towns between Farmersville and New Boston, during their Oct. 11 regular city council meeting.

According to Ben White, City Manager, four Texas Parks and Wildlife grants have been received and awarded to the city of Farmersville.  They are now at the review stage by the Texas Department of Transportation.

White expects the contracts for the grants to be executed by the end of year.

The four grants are $200,000 each, with a $50,000 matching requirement for each grant.

Farmersville’s $200,000 matching portion will be funded by the city of Farmersville, Farmersville Chamber of Commerce, Farmersville Community Development Corporation, and Hunt County.

The Farmersville section of the trail is expected to be completed within a year, with bids being received for 3-4 months, 1 month of lag time, and 6-8 months for construction.
