Council studies potential revenue sources

by | Nov 17, 2022 | Area news, Latest

The Farmersville city council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 8 included a work session to review the benefits of Municipal Development Districts (MDD) and how they might provide increased revenue for future city projects.

A MDD is a political subdivision created by a city to plan, acquire, establish, develop, construct, or renovate one or more development projects beneficial to the district, according to Texas Government Code 377.021. It is funded through a dedicated local sales and use tax that must be approved by the voters in an election held within the district, which could include a city, part of city, or extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ)).
