Early morning structure fire damages local business

by | Dec 1, 2022 | Area news, Latest

An early morning structure fire involved not only the Farmersville Fire Department, but mutual aid from several other communities as well.

The incident, reported at 5:09 a.m., was at the facilities of J&S Plating at 1318 County Road 655, just east of the JW Spain Athletic Complex. The company’s industry type is listed as electroplating of metals and formed products, primarily in the fabricated metal products sector.

Damage to the back of the one-story metal structure was extensive and the fire was completely extinguished at approximately 8:30 a.m.

The city’s emergency services manager, Mike Sullivan, said hazmat units from Plano and Wylie were involved due to chemicals on site, including nickel and cyanide.

Officials indicated there were no hazardous readings during the fire or during clean-up of the site. State and federal agencies have been notified to determine if there are any environmental concerns.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Collin County.

Sullivan said one firefighter was transported to an area hospital for minor burns and two Farmersville police officers were being evaluated for inhalation exposure. No other injuries were reported.
