Summer heralded by weekend events

by | May 31, 2018 | Life & Style

This year’s All Roads Lead to Farmersville event which includes a car show, vendors and live music, will be held Saturday, June 2 in downtown Farmersville. Also being held this weekend is Music in the Park Friday, June 1 at the Onion Shed (7 p.m.), Yards of Yard Sales Saturday, June 2 (all day) and Farmers and Fleas June 2 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) (File photo)

Those looking for summer fun won’t have to look too far as myriad events are on tap for this weekend.

Kicking off the first Music in the Park will be straight 8, a youth Big Band dedicated to becoming better musicians. The band is comprised of middle school, high school and college students that play a wide variety of music including swing, blues, rock, jazz, latin, doo-wop, originals, chart toppers and even acapella pieces.

Notes will fly at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1 at the Onion Shed and City Park. The free concert is open to everyone and is the first in a series of concerts provided by the city amenities board.

Concert goers are invited to bring chairs, blankets and bug spray.

Prior to the concert starting at 6:30 p.m. there will be food vendors with snacks and dinner opportunities for purchase.

The concert series will continue later this summer with Matt Caldwell on Friday, July 6 and The Blandells on Friday, Aug. 3.

The summer fun weekend will continue Saturday, June 2 as the second annual All Roads Lead to Farmersville Car Show and Summer Music Fest kicks off downtown from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, which is hosted by the MI (Member Initiated) Committee a subcommittee of Farmersville Chamber of Commerce, will boast a wide variety of activities including a car show, sidewalk sales on the square, live music, raffles and food vendors.

Live music by the Clay Potter Band will be played on the bricks from noon until 2 p.m. and plaques for the car show will be presented at 2:30 p.m.

Cars, trucks, tractors and other motorized vehicles are welcome to participate.

“We will have slot car races all during the car show and those slot cars and tracks will be raffled off,” Chamber Executive Director Lisa Eastman said. “So even if you aren’t coming to see all of the cars and trucks entered in the show, come see Tedford’s new cars, come to hear the Clay Potter Band, shop the stores downtown or come to grab a really good lunch.”

All throughout the day, the chamber’s annual Yards of Yard Sales will also be taking place.

Unlike years past, there are no permits, no fees and no registration. If a resident wishes to have a yard sale that day they can do so without receiving a permit from the city.

Then each yard sale participant will be encouraged to put up signs to direct traffic to their locations.

Farmers and Fleas will boast its own set of vendors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Onion Shed Saturday, June 2.
