DOJ mandates religious sensitivity training

by | Apr 25, 2019 | Latest

Discrimination against religious land use in Farmersville has not only garnered negative international media attention, now city officials have to get sensitivity training.

In a settlement agreement between the city of Farmersville and the U.S. Department of Justice over a proposed Islamic Association of Collin County cemetery city officials must conduct sensitivity training within 90 days and allow the cemetery.

The settlement was signed by both parties March 26 and a lawsuit was filed by the DOJ chronicling the city’s misdoings Tuesday, April 16. Since the settlement was agreed upon, the lawsuit is moot unless the city violates terms listed in the settlement.

The proposed 34-acre cemetery located on CR 557 near Hwy. 380, will include 11,356 burial sites, internal roads, landscaping, screening, an irrigation system, a parking lot, a pavilion, restrooms and detention ponds.
