Police Chief Mike Sullivan announced yesterday that the city of Farmersville was closing several public facilities in response to the COVID-19 virus.

The following is a statement from Sullivan, who serves as the city’s emergency manager.

In response to COVID-19 and precautions being taken throughout the State and Nation, the City of Farmersville will take like precautions to limit potential exposures in the city. Effectively immediately, as it relates to public gatherings, the City of Farmersville will be closing the Civic Center, Senior Center, J.W. Spain Sports complex, and the Onion Shed. Additionally, previously scheduled public events will be closed until further notice.

Until some perspective is learned on the spread and direct impact this will have on the city, City officials will continue to monitor and track its progress and impact and make decisions in accordance with advice from Collin County Public Health and CDC recommendations.

This situation is fluid and changes daily, so were currently evaluating closing the City Library and public areas such as the Lobby to City Hall. We’ll continue to track the situation and make adjustments to these areas as needed. Alternatives are in place and planned for public communication if and when it’s needed.

Sullivan indicated that his department is monitoring the situation (COVID-19) daily and will keep pubic officials and citizens apprised of updates and new information as it develops.
