Both the Farmersville In­dependent School District and Farmersville City Council will hold a May 1 election, accord­ing to their current schedules. No candidates have filed.

Farmersville ISD

The board of trustees is com­prised of seven places, four of which are up for election in a few months. Each term is four years.

Places 1, 2, 3 and 4 are cur­rently open for filing applica­tions and have a Feb. 12 dead­line for those interested.

As of this past Tuesday, no one has filed for any of these seats.

Place 1 is currently held by Paul Kelly, the board’s vice-president.

Place 2 is held by Dale Pick­ett, the board’s secretary.

Place 3 is held by Tony Gray, the board’s president.

Place 4 is held by David Coleman.

To be eligible to apply for one of the places a candidate must satisfy the following cri­teria:

1. Be a United States citizen. 2. Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as ap­plicable.

3. Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally inca­pacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

4. Have not been finally con­victed of a felony from which the person has not been par­doned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities [but see ineligibility below].

5. Have resided continu­ously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preced­ing the following date: a. For an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing dead­line for a candidate’s applica­tion for a place on the ballot. b. For a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate’s name is written in. c. For an appointee to an of­fice, the date the appointment is made.

6. Be registered to vote in the territory from which the of­fice is elected on the date de­scribed at item 5, above.

City Council

The filing period for Farm­ersville city council is also underway and no candidates have filed for the three avail­able seats.

Each term is two years.

The filing period for Place 1, 3 and 5 began on Jan. 13 and runs through Feb. 12 as well.

Place 1 is currently held by Craig Overstreet who is in his second term. He serves as trea­surer for the council.

Place 3 is currently held by Jim Hemby who is in his first term.

Place 5 is currently held by Dwain Mathers who is also in his first term. He serves as mayor pro tem.

The same application crite­ria included previously apply to city council applicants.

Voting information

The last day to register to vote for the upcoming elec­tions is April 1.

Early voting is scheduled to begin on April 19 and end on April 27.

Election Day is May 1.
