Two-car wreck occurs on U.S. 78

Traffic was diverted Thursday afternoon on U.S. 78 between Wylie and Lavon to allow police and emergency personnel access to a 2-vehicle wreck that claimed a reported three lives.

The wreck occurred about 2 p.m. on U.S. 78 near Rettop Rd. Traffic from Wylie was backed up to the Walmart Store. Northbound passenger vehicles were diverted on to a road over Lake Lavon dam.

Early law enforcement reports indicated that one of the vehicles caught fire and was put out by an individual with a fire extinguisher.

Wylie Fire Rescue responded to the wreck, as well as Wylie Police and Department of Public Safety Troopers.
