Endurance cyclist Danielle Girdano set a new record of 23 days for a ride from Chicago, Ill., to Santa Monica, Calif., roughly following old Route 66. The old record was 44 days.
Mountains, weather and injuries failed to deter endurance bicyclist Danielle Girdano of Nevada from completing a 2,400-mile ride from Chicago, Ill., to Santa Monica, Calif.; she cut the world record for the route almost in half.
Girdano made the ride, which follows old Route 66 as closely as possible, in 23 days from Sept. 18 to Oct. 11. The old record was 44 days.
“You get pushed beyond your limit,” she declared. “Your whole body is sore.”
