An explosion occurred around 3:30 p.m. at 14710 FM 2756, about a half of a mile west of Hwy 78 N. at an Atmos pipe yard.

According to reports, the Collin County fire marshall, Dale Maberry was the first to arrive at the scene.

Farmersville Fire Department personnel responded as well.

Fire Chief Kim Morris said there were two fatalities and three wounded, two of which were transported to a McKinney hospital. Reports indicate the victims were not Atmos employees.

Wylie Fire Department, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, DPS Troopers and FBI personnel are also on the scene

Lt. Nick Bristow, assistant chief deputy for the sheriff’s office said the scene is safe, but officials are asking people to avoid the area if possible.

The location of the blast is about two miles north of Farmersville and was heard by a resident about a mile from the site.

The Farmersville Times will have more information as it becomes available.
