State Rep. Jeff Leach has some getting acquainted ahead of him as he prepares for the start of the 2023 Texas Legislature.
House District 67, which the Plano Republican represents, now includes Farmersville. So, Leach took some time Tuesday to offer a greeting to the Farmersville Rotary Club and tell the Rotarians gathered what they might expect from the upcoming legislative session.
โTexas is the envy of the nation,โ Leach said. โWe donโt worry in this state how to keep people from leaving,โ he said. โInstead, we have to plan for how we cope with the tremendous growth weโre experiencing.โ
Leach referred to a California politician with whom he is acquainted, a Republican, who said โwithout question, the things that keep us up at night are trying to figure outโ how to stop the migration from California to other places, such as Texas.
Leach, though, did say the state has problems that need the Legislatureโs immediate attention. He ticked off โschool security, border security and property tax reliefโ as three of the Legislatureโs main concerns when it convenes in January.
The stateโs border with Mexico, Leach said, presents the nation with a โterrible national security risk.โ He criticized the Joe Biden administration in Washington for โrefusing to visit the border. It is deplorable for them to not visit our 1,200-mile border. Texas is taking steps to do what the feds are refusing to do.โ
