Strawn deals no-hitter in Farmers first district win

by | Mar 15, 2022 | Latest, Sports

Cooper Strawn hit the first Sunnyvale batter of the game. The following 19 consecutive batters were retired from there on his way to a no-hitter.

The Farmers (1-0, 6-9) picked up their first district win of the season, riding the back of Strawn’s dominant performance on the mound. He finished the game with a complete seven innings and 15 strikeouts. Only two batters reached base as a Sunnyvale player walked in the top of the seventh inning. Strawn managed to close the door whenever the team needed him, forcing several swings and misses at the plate.

At the plate, Farmersville totaled five hits and scored four runs over the first three innings. Strawn led the way with the first single of the game in the bottom of the first, later scoring on a walk. He finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs in the contest.

Hitting behind him, Jason Gomez also chipped in with a 2-for-2 game, driving in Strawn in the third inning with an RBI double in the gap. Brady Gray scored the game’s final run on an error by Sunnyvale’s catcher.

Strawn didn’t need the run support, however, as he could blend his pitches effectively. He recorded at least one strikeout every inning, including striking out the side in the second and fourth innings.

The Farmers will travel to Sunnyvale Friday for the second game of the series, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
