First United Methodist Church of Farmersville is helping students get back into school mode with its second annual Back-to-School Bash before classes begin.
The event will distribute over 100 backpacks and school supplies. In addition, there will be free haircuts and face paintings. Judy Brandon, FUMC Lay Leader, said the event is first-come, first-serve.
“We were very successful last year,” Brandon said. “We gave away more than 100 backpacks and schools supplies. We hope to do that again this year.”
The church has asked members of the community for donations, and they will continue to accept items until Thursday, Aug. 3. Donation items will also be accepted at the Family Dollar located at 604 S. Highway 78.
When asked how the church came up with the idea for a back-to-school event, Brandon said that they wanted to help the community, adding that people may have a hard time affording school supplies due to having to buy specific items.
“First United Methodist is always happy to be involved in our community,” Brandon said. “We’re very community-oriented and supportive.”
The event will take place on August 5 at First United Methodist Church Farmersville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
