Michael Sullivan, a dedicated law enforcement officer with 38 years of service, died on Nov. 10, 2024, at the age of 61.

Chief Sullivan began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a police officer with the city of Heath. He later served as a deputy constable in Dallas County before moving on to a distinguished 19-year tenure as a police lieutenant with the city of DeSoto. In 2010, he became chief of police for the city of Farmersville, where he served for over 12 years.

In addition to his police work, Chief Sullivan volunteered for the Farmersville Fire Department, further demonstrating his commitment to public service.

During his time in Farmersville, Chief Sullivan was known for his unwavering commitment to the community and his efforts to strengthen the relationship between the police department and local residents. He led the department through numerous challenges, always prioritizing public safety and integrity.

In August 2022, Chief Sullivan transitioned to the role of assistant city manager for Farmersville, a position he held until April 2024. His leadership abilities and extensive experience in public safety were recognized by the Town of Fairview, where he took on the role of assistant chief of police in April 2024, a position he held at the time of his passing.

Chief Sullivan’s career spanned multiple communities, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he impacted over the years. He is remembered by family, friends and colleagues as a kind, principled leader who dedicated his life to serving others.

Chief Sullivan is survived by his wife, Tammie; son, Michael; and a wide network of colleagues and friends who respected him both professionally and personally.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall. Arrangements are under the direction of Hurst’s Fielder Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville.
