KCS Holiday train to come to Wylie

by | Nov 22, 2016 | Latest

The KCS Holiday Express, a special 6-car Christmas train operated by Kansas City Southern returns to Wylie on Friday, Nov. 25.
The scheduled stop is at 4 p.m. at the Oak Street railroad crossing near Birmingham Street in historic downtown Wylie. The train stays until everyone has toured its cars to visit with Santa Claus and his elves.

This is the 16th year the Holiday Express has crossed the country and the sixth visit to Wylie. The train includes a smiling tank car named Rudy, a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village, a gingerbread boxcar, an elves’ workshop, the reindeer stable and a red caboose. Each car is adorned with lights.
The Southern Belle passenger train provided luxury service between Kansas City and the Gulf Coast region from 1940-1969. It was restored in 1995 and provides a peek into the past s well as powering the KCS Holiday Express.

In addition to bringing holiday cheer, the Express has a charitable component, raising more than $1 million for the Salvation Army over the years.
