LaToya Ellis was the point guard for the 1994-95 Farmersville girls basketball team that finished 29-1, competed in the regional semifinals and was an all-state selection before going on to have a standout collegiate career at Baylor University.
Now, Ellis is going back to her high school alma mater, this time as its head coach. Her hiring was made official by Farmersville ISD on April 8. Ellis takes over for Sandra Hoge, who will continue to serve as an assistant principal.
“I’m just overjoyed, very grateful,” Ellis said. “Once I graduated from Baylor, I thought there would be an opportunity to work in Farmersville, but something didn’t happen. I moved to Houston, then to Austin and moved here three years ago. The boys basketball coach here at Farmersville, Kingsley (Akinwole) called my fiancé, and that’s how everything transpired.”
