When the schedule was released for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Showcase, Farmersville head boys basketball coach Kingsley Akinwole was excited about the opportunity to see how his Farmers measured up against two state champions.

Farmersville showed that it was up for the challenge. Although the Farmers came up just short in a 63-59 loss to Class 2A Division II state champion Lipan and lost 60-58 in overtime to Class 3A Division I state champion Dallas Madison, Akinwole was proud of his team’s fight. Farmersville rallied from an eight-point deficit to force overtime against Dallas Madison.

The Farmers did leave the Showcase with one win, defeating a Krum team that finished 29-6 this past season and was an area-round finalist in the Class 4A Division I playoffs.

“I was excited because the TABC is letting everybody know that Farmersville is a highly competitive team,” Akinwole said. “We’re trying to get to an elite level, and I think that we’re getting there.”
