PARIS — The last time the Farmersville varsity football team visited R.L. Maddox Stadium in Paris during the 2024 season, the game was cut short due to a blown transformer.
Friday night at that same stadium, the only power surge noticeable was coming from the Fightin’ Farmers offense, specifically its stable of running backs.
FHS picked up its second district win of the season and moved to 4-4 on the season as the Farmers broke open a 7-7 tie and rolled to a convincing 52-20 victory over the North Lamar Panthers. The 52 points is the most scored by the Farmers this season.
Farmersville will continue district play Friday at home against Quinlan Ford.
The opening drive of the game started out smoothly enough for the Farmers as they were driving down the field with ease.
But, with the Farmers closing in on an opening score at the Panthers 25-yard line, FHS fumbled the ball to which NLHS recovered.
North Lamar needed just three plays for Jack Rusak to find Aiden Aadmson over the middle for an 80-yard touchdown strike to make it 7-0 with 4:59 left in the opening quarter.
Not to be outdone though, the Farmers responded with just one play on their very next drive as Sebastian Redwine took a reverse handoff and found Amare Warren down field for an 83-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7 going to the second quarter.
North Lamar would get the opening word of the second quarter with, yet another touchdown pass from Rusak, this time finding Keylan Gray from 39 yards out to make it 14-7.
From that moment on though, it was all Farmers.
First, it was FHS cutting the deficit to four points at 14-10 courtesy of a 27-yard field goal.
Then the Farmers defense got a gift as a bad snap on a fourth down punt attempt gave them field position at the Panthers eight-yard line.
Three plays later, the Farmers were back in front thanks to a four-yard touchdown from quarterback Levi McAbee to make it 17-14 with 4:35 left before halftime.
McAbee would strike one more time for FHS as North Lamar went three-and-out, allowing the FHS offense to go to work with a nine play drive that went 55 yards, culminating with a three yard touchdown from the FHS quarterback to send his team into the locker room up 24-14 at the break.
After yet another defensive stop by the FHS defense to open the second half, the offense just kept on plowing ahead as Farmersville extended its lead to 31-14 with a two-yard touchdown plunge from Brandt Martinez with 5:58 left in the third quarter.
North Lamar’s next drive was foiled thanks to an interception, to which Farmersville cashed in thanks to a 19-yard touchdown pass from McAbee to Karsen Brackens in the corner of the end zone to make it 38-14 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter.
